  • I recently migrated from my old Mac to a new computer using Time Machine. Now Fontlab Studio (or Fontographer, or TypeTool) isn’t working or allowing activation. The following message appears in the Activation dialog: "Error while writing license file /Library/Preferences/com.fontlab.xxxm.lic. Please make sure that such a file doesn't exist and you have rights to write to the folder. In other case your license will be lost but your Activation key will be marked as used." What should I do?

It is evident that Time Machine copied the license file from your previous Mac. This license file won't work on your new machine so you need to find it and remove. Please open the Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/ folder and move the file com.fontlab.xxxm.lic to the Trash. Run the software once again and repeat activation process.
